• Ultraviolet Light in Arson Detection Evidence of accelerants is almost always invisible to the naked eye after they have been absorbed in a fire however UV light can assist in rapidly locating accelerant residues and in locating the point of origin of a fire. Furthermore, many ingredients of explosives (including anfo, nitrates, sulfur, fuel oil, paraffins, and P.E.T.N.) fluoresce. Metal fragments with traces of these residues can frequently be found with the use of UV light as well as molotov cocktail type containers. This explains how to use UV light in these investigations. • Leak Detection in Automotive Applications Oils such as those used in automotive engines will glow under UV illumination, thus making them easy to see and track to their source. This explains how UV high intensity lamps, particularly the Blak-Ray® B-100 series, can be used to solve the problem of finding oil and grease leaks of fluids quickly. • Nikon UV-105 Lens (formerly marketed as UV-Nikkor) overview of a limited production, special order Nikon lens distributed by Company Seven world-wide. The Nikon UV-105 is a 105mm f/4.5 is among the best of the very few high performance multispectral lenses ever developed for specialized applications in the ultraviolet portions of the spectrum. However, this is also a superb performer in the visible and into the near infrared portions of the spectrum too. The lens was originally developed for use with a conventional Nikon 35mm single lens reflex (SLR) film camera, but depending on the sensor and desired spectral response this lens can be used with Nikon or Fujifilm digital SLR systems too.

• Solarization When many optical components are exposed to ultraviolet radiation they undergo changes that reduce their ability to transmit UV light, this phenomenon is called solarization.
