Gitzo Reporter and Mountaineer Series 2 Tripods The substantial differences
between these tripod
models are height,
weight, sections, leg angle spread (Standard fixed or Performance variable), and whether or not the center column is a Rapid
(R), or Geared (G) center column. All of these tripod models employ the quick twist lock mechanism for the setting of leg
extension positions.
At left: Model G220 Performance and G212 (Geared) Performance Tripods. The Model G1222 Monotripod features a unique capability; one of the three legs is removable and can be mated with the tripod platform to function as a 4 section Monopod similar to the Model G 1563.
The Mountaineer is a Performance model which enables the legs to be set individually at either 24 degrees, or 60 degrees for low angle imaging, or for use on uneven terrain. The tripod features a Rapid center column and is suitable for binoculars (and for astronomy assuming the binocular height is acceptable to the operator), 35mm and light medium format cameras, and terrestrial spotting telescopes. The Mountaineer's compact size, remarkable low weight, and robustness make it an ideal choice for backpackers while being equally suited for use at home, or in a studio, providing no compromise of stability!

The Model G1228 Mountaineer

construction. The advantage of carbon fiber is that is 30% lighter than the equivalent aluminum tripod, yet it maintains the
robustness, and durability expected of a Gitzo tripod.
