June 8, 1999

The followng announcement is posted on bahalf of Steve Ashe who has developed Linux support for SBIG cameras.  Please direct any inquiries regarding this software to Steve Ashe at ashe@boulder.qms.com and not to SBIG.   Thanks.

Version 2.0 of the free software that allows you low-level control of your ST237, ST5C, ST7, ST8, CFW8, AO7 under Linux is now available for download at ftp.dimensional.com/users/ashe/sbig-linux-2.0.tgz

NEW!

A Java class library that provides for the same control as the sbig-linux library, plus a simple Java app that snaps an image and displays it. All source is included.

NEW!

sbig-linux NO LONGER REQUIRES LOADING A DRIVER. Using various of the Linux realtime controls, it only requires that the program including sbig.a be run setuid root. Easier interface (no ioctl's).

NEW!

ST5C support and various bug fixes.  Special thanks to Sean Houghton for helping with the 5C.

To decompress the archive with gnu tar

tar xvzf sbig-linux-2.0.tgz

to decompress with traditional tar

gunzip -c sbig-linux-2.0.tgz | tar xvf -

This is free software. It comes with no warranty of any type. This software is developed under license from the Santa Barbara Instrument Group, Inc., and contains various object-only modules with their copyright.  The software is not supported by SBIG. Send praise/complaints to
